The Diploma First Year students of KIIT School of Pharmacy participated in an academic field visit on 13th March 2026 to Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences. The visit was organized as an integral part of the academic curriculum to provide students with practical exposure to hospital operations and pharmaceutical practices in a clinical environment. The field visit was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Priti Murmu, Assistant Professor, KIIT school of Pharmacy. The primary objective of the program was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and its practical application in real-world healthcare settings. During the visit, the students were taken to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of the hospital, where the technical staff provided a detailed explanation of the processes involved in the collection, treatment, and disposal of hospital wastewater. The session emphasized the significance of effective biomedical waste management, environmental protection, and adherence to pollution control standards. Students gained valuable insights into how hospitals maintain hygiene and ensure environmental safety through proper waste management systems. Subsequently, the students visited various departments within the hospital premises, where they observed the overall functioning of a multi-specialty healthcare institution. They were introduced to different units and gained an understanding of patient care systems, hospital sanitation practices, and the coordinated role of healthcare professionals in ensuring efficient hospital operations. This exposure enabled the students to appreciate the practical relevance of pharmaceutical knowledge within a clinical setting. Throughout the visit, Dr. Priti Murmu actively guided the students by explaining key concepts, encouraging interactive learning, and ensuring that the educational objectives of the visit were effectively achieved. In conclusion, the field visit to Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences proved to be a highly informative and enriching experience. Such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing students’ practical knowledge, professional awareness, and readiness for future roles in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
